Night vs Daytime Driving - Which is Better? Part 2

Welcome back to our 3-part series! Last week, we covered the fundamentals of money-making, and how the time of day affects it. If you missed it, check out the full article here. This week, we’re going to cover tipping and scheduling. Read on to see how day and night driving stack up!

Which one is better for making a daily schedule?

Day driving can be a great option for you if you want routine in your life. Making a driving schedule is important to a lot of drivers because it allows them to get into a daily routine and maximize their earnings. Nighttime driving can be more unpredictable—you could be driving as late as 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning in order to rack up more earnings. For most, this schedule isn’t sustainable long term. It’s much easier to drive longer hours during the day. Because of this, daytime driving can start to resemble a 40hr/week job much more than night driving can.

Which one makes you more in tips?

While there is no concrete answer to this, it generally seems to be that more people tip at night. This could be due to the fact that they’re more relaxed and willing to spend extra money.

The bottom line is that it’s hazy at best as to what time of day results in more tips. However, here are some definitive pointers that are guaranteed to increase your tip money:

  • Provide phone chargers for more than one phone model

  • Keep cold bottled water in the back seat for passengers

  • Open the trunk for passengers if they have large items

  • Ask passengers if the temperature is okay for them

  • Provide them with the option of an aux cord so they can play music (especially important at night or with groups of friends)

  • Have a tip jar in the car (put some of your own cash in there before you start riding), or hang a sign in the backseat

  • Be a passenger for a day. Request rides to see which driver tendencies you like and which rub you the wrong way

This time, it’s a tie. We’ll give a point to nighttime driving for higher tips, but we have to give another point to daytime driving for daily scheduling. If you have any suggestions or comments, sends us a note:!

Next Week

We’ll discuss everything about ratings: how the time of day affects your ratings, and what to do to increase them. Finally, we’ll answer your question of whether it’s better to drive during the day or at night. Stay tuned!
